Sedation Dentistry Options in Fort Lee, NJ & Surrounding Area
Sedation dentistry is a clear option for patients who feel anxious or nervous about their dental treatment. It involves using a sedative medication to help you feel more relaxed and calm during your visit so that we can provide you with the services you need. Based on your individual needs and preferences we offer several types of sedation dentistry, such as:
- Oral sedation – Involves taking an oral medication at home before you come into the office for your treatment. By the time you come into the office, you will feel calm and at ease.
- Nitrous oxide (N2O) – Also known as laughing gas, this sedative gas is mixed with oxygen and inhaled during your treatment to help you feel more relaxed. Nitrous oxide is a mild form of sedation that wears off within just a few minutes after we stop the flow of gas.
- IV sedation – Involves administering sedative medication intravenously, through the veins. This method enables our dentist to provide the sedation more quickly, as well as easily control the level of sedation to ensure that you stay comfortable throughout your procedure. IV sedation is also known as conscious sedation, meaning that it will not make you unconscious, although you may feel so relaxed during your treatment that you fall asleep. It also may cause you to have no memory of the appointment.
Sedation dentistry is a tool we use to help patients feel more comfortable during their treatment. Our dental team will make sure that you are monitored and safe throughout the entire treatment. Each team member is highly trained in sedation dentistry. Depending on your sedation option, a friend or family member may need to drive you to and from your appointment.
You don’t have to suffer from dental anxiety. Whether you’ve had a bad dental experience in the past or you simply feel nervous about an upcoming procedure, sedation dentistry will help you overcome those challenges. Sedation dentistry is also a good choice for patients who have difficulty getting numb, who have an extremely sensitive gag reflex or can not tolerate the sights, sounds, or smells of a dental office.
