Mercury Amalgam Fillings, the Fetus, and the Nursing Baby
Article # W100, September, 2004
From: www.mercuryfreenow.com

In my book, A Mouth Full of Poison, I write about how mercury released from a mother's amalgam fillings can find its way into the fetus and nursing baby. I discuss how the fetus's exposure to mercury begins at the moment of conception and will continue until the baby stops nursing. As you can see, the mother isn't the only one being poisoned by her amalgam fillings.

Yet, in most cases, the mother is unaware that she is the source of this poison and what is even worse; she was never given a choice in the matter. I find this to be very difficult and sad situation because I do not believe that any mother would ever consciously poison her fetus and child. So if a mother would never allow herself to be responsible for poisoning her offspring, the real question is “how could this possibly happen?”

Where is Our Protection

An even larger question is, "How could this happen in a country that has numerous agencies and elected officials who we trust to protect us, and our children, from exposure to toxic substances?" How could it happen in a county where the medical and dental professions have sworn to not do any harm to their patients? Well it shouldn't happen but it does and when it comes to mercury amalgam fillings, the system that we trust to protect us and our families has not done its job. The result is that millions upon millions of children are suffering for it.

If you are a mother wouldn't you expect your dentist to tell you that your dental fillings are not only poisoning you, but your fetus and baby? Wouldn't you expect to be the one to make the decision about what you do to your health and the health of your fetus and nursing baby? This decision should be yours and never be left to anyone else; be it your dentist, physician, or government representative.

Thus, if the government and the dental and medical professions are committed to protecting your health and well being, and a mother would never knowingly poison her children; why is this critical information not available?

Lack of Communication

I have researched this subject extensively and believe there is only one reason why this situation now exists; a lack of objective communication. After all, it is impossible for anyone to make an informed decision unless you have the necessary information to make an educated choice. But why is this information not available to most dental patients and who is responsible for not providing it?

The first is the resistance by the American Dental Association (ADA) to admit that the mercury released from amalgam fillings is a health hazard. The second is the ADA's on-going pressure on dentists not to discuss the health effects of chronic mercury poisoning from amalgam fillings with their patients. The effect of this pressure is to close down the flow of objective information about amalgam fillings to the majority of dental patients.

Where to get the Information

Of course the ADA, and its pro-amalgam dentists, is not the only source of information on this subject - nor should it be. More and more dentists have seen the light and are becoming mercury free and they make their best effort at educating their patients about these toxic fillings. While I commend these efforts I do not believe they are sufficient to provide this information to the greatest number of patients.

That is why I have written A Mouth Full of Poison and have developed this Website with Tom McGuire, DDS. As a dental patient and parent I made a commitment to make information about mercury amalgam fillings and their affects on health available to everyone who wants to access it. I am confident that if you are concerned about the affects of these fillings on your health, and the health of your children, you will want to read my book and become a regular visit to mercuryfreenow.com. I know this information will provide you with the information you need to make an intelligent decision about these fillings.
